Rastoke - Plitvice Lakes

Key Info

The community of Rastoke is a suburb of the town of Sunj, situated to the northeast of the Plitvice Lakes National Park in the interior of Croatia. The renowned waterfalls of Rastoke are at the confluence of the rivers Slunjčica and Korana. Nature played with blue-green waters of river Slunjčica and sprayed them in many large and small waterfals. The most beautiful ones are Buk Hrvoje and Vilina kosa (fairy’s hair). The lakes of Rastoke are very similar to the Plitvice lakes, but much smaller. In contrast to the protected National Park, the area of the Rastoke waterfalls has been inhabited since times immemorial. Due to this difference , this place abounds with mills and many other examples of a harmonic coexistence of human settlements and beauties of nature, Because of that history and the ethnographic and architectural heritage, the Rastoke region was entered into the Registry of Cultural Monuments of the Regional Office for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Zagreb.

The area surrounding the Plitvice Lakes belongs among the most renowned locations in the country overall. Thanks to its advantageous location along the road to the coastal resorts, it is a welcome stop for the tourists en route to the Adriatic.

At present, the number of visitors who want to spend enough time on the exploration of the National Park is rising, and they are taking advantage of accommodation opportunities in the nearby communities, such as Seliste Dreznicko.
